AUDIO PODCAST

Happy New Year, you guys!!

This week, for the new year, I wanted to share with you THE WAY OF JABEZ….MORE THAN THE PRAYER OF JABEZ

1 Chronicles 4:9-10

Jabez was more honorable than his brothers; and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, “Because I bore him in (with) pain.”Jabez called upon the God of Israel, saying, ‘Oh that you would bless me and enlarge my border, and that your hand might be with me, and that you would keep me from harm so that it might not bring me pain! ‘ And God granted what he asked”

This is not a “name it” and “claim it” prayer.  It’s not a formula to get God to answer your prayer.  It’s not a ritualistic prayer that can manipulate God to answer you. However, there is a blessing waiting for you when you understand the heart behind the prayer.

Jabez’s name means pain, sorrow, and grief.

The mother of Jabez named him “pain,” “grief,” and “sorrow” because of the pain of childbirth and what it brings.

He didn’t want to live a life of pain and sorrow anymore. He didn’t want to continue being in pain, but he also did not want to cause pain to anyone else.

When He asked God to bless him, he was asking HIM to come close to him, for His presence, for His hand to be with him. He was asking God to give HIMSELF to him. And this is exactly what JESUS did for us! He gave HIMSELF to us!  He wasn’t asking God to take him out of his circumstances or even to change his name. But he asked God to come close to him IN HIS CIRCUMSTANCES! He wasn’t looking for an escape, and he knew he couldn’t go back and change the way his mother felt at the time she gave birth, but he did know GOD, and he wanted GOD to be CLOSE to him…not just in a moment…but for life!

Jabez longed for a change. His change started with a prayer. His prayer was sincere, and his heart was pure.  Your life can be changed, too, by a sincere prayer!
