THE DEPOT PODCAST: If You Were Put on Trial Today, What Would the Charges Be? (Acts 24, 25 and 26)

Think of a time you were “put on trial” even though there were no charges against you and/or you were not found guilty of doing anything wrong other than being a Christian. What was the outcome?

THE DEPOT PODCAST

HOST: ERIN OLSON

AUDIO PODCAST

In this episode, Erin Olson continues her series in the book of Acts. In chapters 24, 25, and 26 Paul stands trial first before the governor, Felix, and then in front of Festus. His case was then also heard in front of King Herod Agrippa II (the last of the Herod dynasty). None of them could find that Paul was guilty of anything and would have turned him loose except for the fact they wanted to find favor with the Jews (Felix was a political hack and was looking for a bribe) and Paul had requested to be heard by Caesar. Given that he was kept as a prisoner, the transport to Rome as a prisoner would be the means by which God got Paul to Rome.

The continual sharing of the Gospel and the conviction brought on those who weren’t Christians but the Holy Spirit brought a range of emotions to Paul’s listeners. Some were angered, some were frustrated, some were fearful, and some were callous. Each time Paul spoke, the people who were listening had their sins exposed in some manner. As A.W. Tozer said, “Not death but sin should be our great fear.”

Things to Think About:

  • Think of a time you were “put on trial” even though there were no charges against you and/or you were not found guilty of doing anything wrong other than being a Christian. What was the outcome?
  • If you have never been called out for your faith, why? Are you actively engaging in sharing the Gospel with people? Or, have you isolated yourself amongst other Christians? What, if anything, can you do differently going forward?
