Thankful to God

It may be the case that you are still awaiting an answer to today’s trial, but you can still praise Him.

“The LORD is my strength and song,
And He has become my salvation;
This is my God, and I will praise Him;
My father’s God, and I will extol Him.“

Exodus 15:2 (NASB1995)

Music is a big influence in my life, regardless of the fact that I do not play any musical instrument. I listen mostly to Christian or classical music, preferring instrumental over vocal when I need to concentrate. There are times when my heart is jubilant and overflowing with praise for God through some recent blessing or discovery – requiring a worship session to celebrate the moment. This was the situation of Moses and the sons of Israel in Exodus 15; Almighty God had miraculously delivered them through the Red Sea from the pursuing Egyptian army. They certainly had good reason to be jubilant and praise God.

As I meditated on today’s verse, I saw three items that Moses identified with God. He states that the Almighty is his strength, song, and salvation. It was His strength that had saved them by parting the Red Sea for them to cross and closing it over their enemies. It is God’s mighty hand that avails on His children’s behalf every day. The Israelites saw the mighty hand of God at work on their behalf, and their hearts were filled with joy and hope – it is no wonder they were inspired to praise Him. Personally, I can look back on times when I have seen God’s strength saving me. In reflection, afterwards, the Israelites could proclaim that “He has become my salvation.” So, can we proclaim this when we reflect on the times He has saved us?

Dear reader, can you, with Moses, sing the words “This is my God, and I will praise Him?“  It may be the case that you are still awaiting an answer to today’s trial, but you can still praise Him – praising in advance for His provision! As a father, I love it when our children come to m,e knowing that I will help them. God our Father is the originator of this loving attitude; He loves it when we praise Him expectantly. Let your heart sing to Him today, brethren.

in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
1 Thessalonians 5:18
