Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Him, “Teacher, rebuke Your disciples.” But Jesus answered, “I tell you, if these become silent, the stones will cry out!”
Luke 19:39-40 (NASB)
This was, in effect, literally fulfilled, when, upon men’s reviling Christ upon the cross, instead of praising him, and his own disciples’ sinking into a profound silence, the earth did quake and the rocks rent. (Matthew Henry)
I agree with Matthew Henry; when Christians are silent regarding Almighty God and His magnificent works, the Holy Spirit makes a noise. When Christ died on Calvary the temple curtain was torn in two from top to bottom with great ease, the dead were raised walking the city streets, and the earth quaked. Is it any wonder that we read, “Now the centurion, and those who were with him keeping guard over Jesus, when they saw the earthquake and the things that were happening, became very frightened and said, “Truly this was the Son of God!” (Matthew 27:54).
Dear Reader, as redeemed children of God by Christ, our Lord, and Saviour, we have a duty to share the Good News. It may not be by preaching or even specific evangelism, but by being willing to share God’s love in our lives – either in words or good deeds. but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence
1 Peter 3:15
