How majestic is Your name in all the earth!
Psalm 8:9 (NASB)
Our verse today comes from a short psalm of praise to God, meditating on His amazing creation, His magnificence seen in His handiwork in contrast to the humility of mankind, whom He has chosen to love. It is something we could meditate upon for endless hours and never fathom the reason why He loves us so much.
As I studied this psalm, I found myself drawn to the opening and closing words: “O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is Your name in all the earth!” Quickly, I saw how the verse broke down into three points before my eyes. First, “LORD” is the proper addressing of God as Jehovah/the existing One, recognising His place as the great I AM, the Creator and LORD of all. If we meet King Charles, we address him appropriately as your Majesty, addressing Almighty God as LORD is on a completely different level. Second, “our LORD” is a proclamation of relationship with God, recognising Him as the One we cling to, follow, and obey. Third, in “how majestic is Your name in all the earth!” is a declaration beyond recognition and relationship; it is a declaration of worship of the Almighty – of unfettered love.
Dear Reader, how do you relate to God in your life each day? For some, He is a mere genie to answer their demands, and to others, a cold duty to recognise. I pray that the three simple points I share with you will draw you closer to Him, to recognise Him, relate to Him, and to worship Him in your devotional time with Him today.
