There is nothing quite like the promise of a friend or loved one to stand with you in difficult times.

Now behold, I have made you today as a fortified city and as a pillar of iron and as walls of bronze against the whole land, to the kings of Judah, to its princes, to its priests and to the people of the land. They will fight against you, but they will not overcome you, for I am with you to deliver you,” declares the LORD.
Jeremiah 1:18-19 (NASB)

There is nothing quite like the promise of a friend or loved one to stand with you in difficult times; it strengthens us in whatever we are facing whether it be great or small. This was the situation that Jeremiah faced at the beginning of his ministry; but his friend was none other than Almighty God – the best friend anyone could hope for! God had chosen Jeremiah, touched him, and said “Behold, I have put My words in your mouth.” (Jeremiah 1:9). A few verses later, we find the amazing declaration of Godly protection in today’s shared text.

Adam Clarke, in his commentary, has this to say about today’s Scripture: “Though thou shalt be exposed to persecutions and various indignities, they shall not prevail against thee. To their attacks thou shalt be as an impregnable city; as unshaken as an iron pillar; and as imperishable as a wall of brass. None, therefore, can have less cause to apprehend danger than thou hast. The issue proved the truth of this promise: he outlived all their insults; and saw Jerusalem destroyed, and his enemies, and the enemies of his Lord, carried into captivity.” Thus, Jeremiah saw the LORD’S victory in his lifetime!

Dear Reader, the God of Jeremiah is our Father God! In Him, we have the same level of protection each day as we stand against the ungodly enemies of Heaven. It is our duty as children of the Almighty to seek His purpose for our life, and to prevail confidently in His presence by our side always.

God has a distinct purpose for each life, and our one aim should be to discover and work out His plan.” F.B. Meyer
