and said, “My Lord, if I have now found favor in Your sight, do not pass by Your servant.” Genesis 18:3
It is often the dream of many to have someone of extremely high importance or popularity to come for a visit. Having someone like that makes many feel very important or privileged. They are moved up on the social ladder of society. Yet, sometimes, people reject having someone like that come in. They turn down the great opportunity that is set before them.
Abraham was at his home when God appeared to him. Abraham asked the Lord that He should not pass him by and stay for a meal.
People feel that either they are too important for God or that they are too little for God. When self-ego is up, people do not want to take time out of their busy schedule to allow God to enter into their lives. They choose to not believe in God or that they have a need for Him.
Others recognize what they have done wrong and how very unimportant they are and don’t want to let God in. They see the sin in their lives and don’t want God to see it, their house is dirty. Embarrassment sets in and causes them to keep their doors closed, allowing Him to pass on by.
God wants to have fellowship with a person but does not force His way in. He comes by a person but waits to be invited in. If He is not invited in, God will continue to move on, though He may also keep knocking on the door to be allowed to enter.
Instead of allowing God to pass by believers need to allow God in. He is ready to forgive and work in one’s life. He has a plan for each and every individual that is willing to be used by Him.
When a visitor comes by unexpectedly, you may be embarrassed by the state of your home and may not want the person to come in. God knows what your home–your life–looks like, and yet He still desires to come by to visit with you. As He comes by to visit with you, do not allow yourself to push Him away. Invite Him in to stay. It may be that God is ready to show you the next steps in your life and the plan He has for you.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you know when God is trying to step into your life; that you will invite God into your life; and that you will spend time with God.
