The LORD is the portion of my inheritance and my cup;
You support my lot.
Psalm 16:5 (NASB1995)
Sometimes, when I am in a reflective mood, I ponder the many blessings in my life. Some are temporary for a short period, and others are for life. I hope the same is true for you today. I can remember friends of my past when I lived elsewhere, many of whom are only a pleasant memory now. Then there is my family and nearest friends, whom I both love. They are a part of my life every day and part of me, who I am. These dear ones are my most treasured ones.
My thoughts on this were spurred on by the hymn “Dear Saviour, Thou Art Mine,” which was part of a service I watched from Whitewell Metropolitan Tabernacle in Belfast. These opening words heated a fire in my heart and mind; Jesus, my Saviour, is mine! My life is surrendered to Him because of His sacrifice for me at Calvary; I am His, and He lives in me (Galatians 2:20). He lives in me – He is mine! He truly is “the portion of my inheritance” in Eternity.
Dear Reader, this is also true of you if you take refuge in God through His Son Jesus (Psalm 16:1-2). In Him, we have good, but best of all, we have Him. In Him, you can not be shaken; He is our most treasured possession now and forever!
I have set the LORD continually before me;
Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.
Psalm 16:8
