All too often, we let our circumstances dictate our response to things. We tend to look at life through the lens of our experiences instead of through the eyes of our potential futures. As a result, we often get exactly what we expect to receive, even though it is never what our Destiny is supposed to be.
We tend to settle for what is ok, instead of God’s best for us, because we don’t like the process of having to venture too far into the unknown. We get comfortable with what our current situations are and never move too far from what we are used to.
Abraham was not one of those people, though; he moved in obedience to God’s voice regardless of the potential unknowns that faced him. When he left his home, his family, his friends, and everything else in the land of Gerar, he was taking an incredible risk by trusting the Lord and stepping out, but he did, and God blessed him enormously for it.
Although it appeared (at the time) that what he was doing was crazy to his family and friends, he knew that if he stepped out into the unknown, God would meet him on the other side of it. He dared to envision a future where he was blessed beyond measure, and God’s Destiny for his life was going to unfold for him if he would just trust the Lord in the midst of a totally unknown future of possibilities. It was a place of total trust in a promise that God had spoken to him.
How many of us have been given Promises by the Lord that we haven’t seen fulfilled? Is it because the timing is not right or because we haven’t dared to step too far away from what is a safety net for us?
Are we really willing to trust the Lord and venture off into a totally unfamiliar territory, or do we keep a backup plan in place just in case God doesn’t come through for us? Abraham didn’t leave with a backup plan in mind; he didn’t have a secondary resource to draw upon. All he had was a promise from the Lord.
I’m not saying not to be wise in what we do, I’m saying not to approach the promises of God from a place of distrust or fear; for both of those things will often delay the Promises and the Blessings that God has for you, they are enemies of Faith and Trust.
In order to obtain many of the Promises that God has given us, we may have to take a leap of faith that takes us away from everything that’s been familiar to us and allow the Holy Spirit to bring us into a place of total dependency upon God.
If He gave you the Promise, He intends to fulfill it. He is not a man that He should lie, and He doesn’t tease us with a future that He has no intention of giving us. If He said it, He will accomplish it. His Word never returns void; it will always come through.
Boldly step out into your future, with a Faith that’s willing to trust the Lord no matter what it looks like! Believe that God has your best interest at heart and that His plans for you are for good and not for evil, set sail and allow the Holy Spirit to fill those sails of your future, and let Him blow you into your Destiny. When He does, you will see His Promises for you take shape and begin to come to pass!
