Making Excuses

As a believer, God will call you to take on a task that is something new and bigger than you have ever done.

Then Moses said to the Lord, “O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither before nor since You have spoken to Your servant; but I am slow of speech and slow of tongue.” Exodus 4:10

Excuses are something that people begin to use from the time that they are a little child. People are able to come up with a reason as to why something happened or did not happen, or why they can or cannot do something. It is something that often does not end when a person grows up to be an adult.

God came to Moses and told him to go to Pharaoh to release His people. Moses said he could not and had the excuse that he was unable to speak well and is very slow in what he says.

Beginning as a child people have come up with all kinds of excuses as to why they did not do their homework or some chores at home. Later, as adults, people give a million and one excuses as to why they were late for work or unable to get the work done.

Those who work in this way will often come up with excuses as to why they are unable to take on a new task. They have no confidence in their own abilities and try to avoid everything.

God calls many people to step up to do some work for Him. Sometimes it may be a grand thing such as becoming a missionary to a foreign nation, but often it is just being a witness to someone near them. Or it could be just taking on a ministry inside the church. Many believers come up with every excuse under the sun as to why they cannot do it.

Rather than making excuses, believers need to do what God says and trust His strength to help them accomplish the task.

As a believer, God will call you to take on a task that is something new and bigger than you have ever done. It will be easy to make an excuse as to why you should not or cannot do it. Do not allow fear of self or others stop you from stepping out and doing what God has called you to do. Don’t make excuses to not do it. God can help you overcome any problems you may have in accomplishing what He is calling you to do.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will hear what God is calling you to do; that you will not make excuses to avoid what God is calling you to do; and that you will trust God’s ability to work through you to accomplish His task for you.
