His Light Shines

The existence of light is important and determines our life and well-being.

Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness.

Genesis 1:3-4 (NASB)

In our verses today, we see the beginning of one of the most important themes of Scripture; that of light. The existence of light is important and determines our life and well-being. As I write, it is after 10 a.m. in the morning and not fully daylight – such are the winter days often in Scotland. In the shorter days, we retreat to the warmth of our homes and think of warm thoughts of summer. In our verses today light is approved of by God – it is where we find Him.

Light is the abode of all that is good and Godly, but darkness by contrast is the abode of evil and all that is godless. We only need to read the news of the wicked done in the darkness of our streets to see the truth of this. God is Light, and there is no darkness in Him (1John1:5).

We have just celebrated Christmas, a season of many beautiful lights in and around our homes, and on our Christmas trees. It is a time to remember the birth of God’s Son, Jesus Christ. He is the Light of the world, sent by His Father to shine in our lives, to draw us to the Father of Light. Yet, many folk do not recognize Him as the reason for the season.

In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men. The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.
John 1:4-5 (NASB)

Dear Reader, do you know Jesus Christ, the Light of the World? The purpose of His coming was to redeem us from the darkness of this world; to light the way before us each day, to walk with Him. Choose to walk in His Light today brethren!

for you were formerly darkness, but now you are Light in the Lord; walk as children of Light
Ephesians 5:8 (NASB)
