Give God the Credit

Believers are to give God credit for what blessings are in their lives.

And he lifted his eyes and saw the women and children, and said, “Who are these with you?” So he said, “The children whom God has graciously given your servant.” Genesis 33:5

People who have gained great wealth or large families see it as a work that they did on their own. They want to receive all the credit for all the hard work that they did. Occasionally people will recognize a few others in what made them successful, but that is rare. All they see is their own hard work and want others to see it also.

As Jacob came up to Esau, Esau asked who all the people with Jacob were. Jacob told him that it was children that God had blessed him with.

The world wants to take credit for what one did. It builds up one’s own ego and stature in one’s own eyes. Giving credit to someone else is difficult and takes the eyes off of self.

Although one can do a lot, no one can do everything completely alone. It takes the help and favor of others for any one person to accomplish anything. Even making a family takes at least two people, a mother and a father.

One thing that the world does not take into account for all that one has is that God is working in the situation. Without God, one cannot even breathe, move, or do anything.

Believers are to give God credit for what blessings are in their lives. They are to point people back to God and what He has done and is doing in their lives. As they do this it is being a witness of who God is and what He can do. It takes the eyes off of self and puts it on God.

When people look at your life, they will see things that you have. At times they may ask how you have what you have. That is a point in which you have an opportunity to be a witness to the world about God. Share how God has blessed you graciously with all that you have. Share how God has worked in your life. Do not be selfish and take all the credit but give God the credit for the blessings in your life. Point people to God who has blessed you and God will be able to increase those blessings even greater.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know how God has blessed you; that you will share with others how God has blessed you; and that you will give God all the credit for the good in your life; and that your life will be a witness of who God is.
