Above All Things

When so much is taking place in our world that causes real concern, and when prophecies rightly warn us of what is coming, we cannot forget this one thing – God is above all things. Nothing that is happening in our world is without His knowledge. His plan of redemption is greater and more powerful than the most evil and threatening plan of hell. His power is second to none in this world or in the heavens above.

Today, all of us who follow Jesus Christ need to stop and take a moment to recalibrate our vision of the future. Until our understanding of the Lord is above all the things that cause us concern, we will not have the faith needed to navigate through the events that will unfold in the coming days. It’s not about God winning. When Jesus rose from the dead, hell was defeated. From that perspective, we are called to interpret the world around us.

With that reality comes an understanding of the faithfulness of God for whatever happens in the future. It is a higher understanding than our most detailed opinion about the end of time and what we think will transpire in the meantime. The highest level of our thinking is not a destination. At its best, it is limited and it must experience an ongoing commitment to renewal or we will park our minds in a place of rigidity and not be able to see something larger and more comprehensive that God is accomplishing.

When we think we have it all figured out, we don’t. Only when we understand something higher and more beautiful is in play under God’s direction, will we be able to experience His peace when the cultural and spiritual turmoil is so intense it seems to a faithless and unrenewed mind that, “The world is going to hell in a handbasket.” 

“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord.“And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, some ways are higher than your ways my thoughts higher than your thoughts”(Isaiah 55:8-9).
