“You Will Know That I Am The LORD!”

The main purpose of God’s actions was to bring His children back to Him in repentance.

Now the end is upon you, and I will send My anger against you; I will judge you according to your ways and bring all your abominations upon you. For My eye will have no pity on you, nor will I spare you, but I will bring your ways upon you, and your abominations will be among you; then you will know that I am the LORD!’
Ezekiel 7:3-4 (NASB)

In today’s scripture, we come face to face with a strong contrast between God speaking here and the god the world chooses to believe in. The world believes in the fictitious grandfather with white hair and an effervescent smile, someone who won’t punish them regardless of their sins. This was the sort of god that the Israelites chose to believe in during their wickedness, but through the prophet Ezekiel, Almighty God tells a different story of judgment and punishment. The main purpose of God’s actions was to bring His children back to Him in repentance; that the stark reality of their punishment left them in no doubt who God was – “then you will know that I am the LORD!”

How often have we or someone we know been certain of an outcome in circumstances, but have been stunned by the opposite outcome? We see this playing out in our world today as many deny God, arguing vehemently that faith in God is based on lies and myths. Yet, with each passing day, we see more of God’s prophetic Word being fulfilled. And then there are new historical/archaeological/scientific discoveries every year, which further confirm the reliability of the Bible.

Dear Reader, souls are saved every day who find that God is who He says He is – and that His Son Jesus is one and only Saviour. The burden of proof grows more clear with each passing day; time is running out on the opportunity to know God personally. There is a train journey to Heaven leaving the station soon, and tickets are by invitation only for those who know that He is the LORD!
