And he got up and immediately picked up the pallet and went out in the sight of everyone, so that they were all amazed and were glorifying God, saying, “We have never seen anything like this.”
Mark 2:12 (NASB)
The story of the paralyzed man brought to Jesus for healing is a remarkable event indeed; can you imagine the scene as the roof opens above you as you listen to Jesus, the sun streams in and suddenly a pallet appears on a rope being lowered by strong arms. That was remarkable enough, but Jesus rather than being angry about the roof of His house smiled at the men above and their friend now lying in front of Him. He spoke warm words of forgiveness for the man’s sins which the Pharisees didn’t like, but to make His point clear Jesus ordered the man to get up and take his bed home! For me it isn’t the miracle that astounds me, but rather the reaction of the crowd to the miracle. Can you imagine their jaws falling open and their eyes wide, saying “Did you see that?” to equally astounded friends by their side? They only had one response, to give glory to God and praise Him.
There was no room for doubt, God was present and at work. This is still the case in our lives today. I remember times in my life when God has intervened suddenly; like the times when I have asked for someone to share the Gospel with…and minutes later someone approaches me. God’s work within our lives is always on time and to great effect, on believers and unbelievers alike. When God acts it is unmistakable for anyone else’s work, as in the story of the paralyzed man.
Dear Reader, if you are a believing child of God this is the reality of your Father God. This is why we can live by faith, knowing that He knows what we need, and when we need it. May you be encouraged in Him today when He makes you gasp in awe of His provision.
Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and unfathomable His ways!
