“What can I bring?”
This is the question we ask when invited to dinner at a friend’s home.
“What can I bring?”
The host typically replies….
“Nothing. Just bring yourself.”
But we don’t.
We don’t just bring ourselves.
A good guest still brings flowers, dessert, or wine.
We know to bring something.
We feel compelled to bring something.
It’s rude to do otherwise.
We mistakenly do the same with Jesus.
When we encounter Jesus, the simplicity of the gospel, and pure love….we feel like we have to “bring something.”
That’s where man-made religion comes in.
We bring our stuff.
It’s Jesus + Something.
But it’s not.
It’s just Jesus.
Jesus + Anything = Striving
Just Jesus = Everything
It’s the hardest thing for our human minds to understand.
I offer nothing to my salvation.
Nothing.
When you have been invited to the marriage supper of The Lamb, listen.
He said, “You gave me your YES. Please, child, bring nothing else.”
Believe Him.
Sit at His feet.
Let Jesus be God.
Bring nothing.
He brings Truth.
He brings Healing.
He brings Redemption.
He brings Peace.
He brings Joy.
HE CHANGES US.
He will give you the desire for obedience.
He will give you the desire for worship.
He will give you the song.
He brings the bread.
He brings the wine.
He gives the gifts.
We bring nothing to the table.
He desires to do it all.
Let Him.
Be still, and know that He is God.
Fruit is simply the evidence that you know Him.
That you have drank from His cup, and have been at His table.
