See that you walk carefully, not as fools but as wise, Ephesians 5:15
Walking across ground that is rough and filled with sharp, jagged rocks can be very dangerous. One has to very carefully choose the steps to avoid tripping or slipping, causing one to fall and possibly get seriously injured. Many people will completely avoid walking that path due to the danger of it. Others will attempt to walk it quickly without any thought and get themselves seriously injured and in trouble. Those who choose their steps carefully, will get across it and be rewarded with what is on the other side of the pathway.
Paul has just told the Ephesian church to walk in love and light and now tells them to walk carefully, not as fools, but as wise people.
Going through life is a journey of walking step by step through many different situations, and making choices all along the way.
The majority of the world attempts to walk that path on their own with the belief that there is no God. At the point of saying that there is no God makes them fools. A fool does not consider the steps needed to be taken but just rushes forward as to what feels good in the moment.
Stepping in that way will cause one to slip up and fall. Loose rocks will slip out from under their feet and cause them to fall and get seriously injured. These rocks are the sinful ways of the world that reject God and lead a person to death and destruction.
Believers are to be careful and wise in how they walk through this life. They are to seek God’s will and direction to know which steps to take and which to avoid. This will be a walk of holiness and righteousness, not sin and death.
If you have ever walked on uneven, rough ground, you know how difficult and dangerous it can be. This world is a rough and jagged world that is filled with sin and focused on sin. It will be easy to get distracted and walk as a fool, falling into sin. Do not walk as the world and be a fool, but put your focus upon God and allow Him to guide your steps. Walk in the holiness and righteousness of Jesus Christ as He has given it to you and be led by His Holy Spirit in each step.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; you will hear how God wants you to walk each day; you will walk in the wisdom and power of God; that God will open your eyes to foolish ways of walking; and that God will give you strength to overcome foolish ways of walking.
