Using God’s Word

Believers need to be willing to use God’s word to fight against the ways of this world.

But Jesus answered him, saying, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.’” Luke 4:4

In order to stay healthy, people need to eat a well-balanced meal that includes all of the four food groups. Eating just sweets or just meat may taste good, but it removes a lot of what else is needed for the body. When missing the needed nourishment, one will easily become sick and susceptible to diseases. Going through life people need a nourishment that will strengthen and sustain them in times of need.

Luke records that Jesus was being tempted by the devil in the wilderness. Jesus quoted a scripture that said one should not live on bread alone but by every word of God.

People like to get by with as little as possible. Preparing a well-balanced meal takes planning, time, and effort. Grabbing a fast-food meal is quick and easy but carries very little nutrition to keep a person going well.

The world offers food with no nutrition to deceive one into thinking that one is doing well. Temptation to participate in sinful activities appears to be good even as it causes one to die. Many don’t know how to combat the temptations.

Believers need to be willing to use God’s word to fight against the ways of this world. God’s word is alive and active, ready to demolish strongholds and provide a way out from falling into sin.

Without all of God’s word, one is walking in one’s own strength and power. One becomes weak and sick and falls into sin.

Memorizing and then quoting God’s word will help the believer to remember what God says about how to live. It will push back the devil and remove the power of temptation.

Temptation to sin will come against you each and every day. In order to be able to stand up against it, you must be well-fed by God’s word and then use that word for strength and power. Take time daily to memorize God’s word and study how to use it in your life. God gave it to you to guide you in how to live the holy and righteous life He has called you to live. Don’t neglect His word and fall into sin but use it to live an abundant and successful life for God.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know the value of God’s word; that you will use God’s word to defeat temptation; and that God will give you victory over temptation.
