These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers. Acts 1:14
During major disasters, whole communities of people will often come together to help and support each other. They will do it to find strength in each other and to know that they are not alone in what has occurred. The more that they are united together, the stronger they will become and increase their ability to overcome the difficulties of the disaster.
Luke records that after Jesus had left the earth, the disciples, Mary the mother of Jesus, and His brothers all got together in unity to pray and present requests to God.
Working alone, a person can accomplish some things, but there are limits as to what can be done. It can also become very discouraging when there is no one alongside to help encourage and strengthen when things go awry.
The world tries to claim that everyone can do things on their own. Unity is often very difficult to find. Jealousy and greed rise in the hearts of people, causing them to rise up against each other and go their separate ways.
Many in the church will often try to do things on their own as the world does. They refuse to get together for prayer with other believers. As a result, things fall apart and many fall away.
Since the beginning of creation, God has made men and women to work together in unity. The unifying factor in every person is to be God and Jesus.
When chaos breaks out and there is disaster or uncertainty, believers are to get together in unity. Their focus is to seek God in prayer for wisdom, guidance, strength, and favor. The result is that God can step in and do mighty miracles and change lives and situations.
There are many things that you can do on your own. Yet, there are things that you need the strength of others to come alongside you to accomplish. When you gather with other believers in unity and prayer, you allow God to work in greater ways than on your own. God loves to show up in the middle of two or more believers agreeing in prayer.
Are you willing to join with other believers in seeking God for help in every area of your personal life, the lives of others, and your community?
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know the power of prayer to God; that you will unify with other believers in seeking God’s help; and that God will do great works in and through your life.
