Twisting What Was Said

Believers are to be willing to speak the truth in every situation.

Then they secretly induced men to say, “We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses and God.” Acts 6:11

News reporters claim to speak the truth in their reporting of what people say. Often, hear someone famous say something, but then report it as though they said something completely different. This is done so that their news report can get people to think a certain way and make a judgment, for or against the one that did the speaking, without really thinking about what was actually said or done. They have twisted the words to accomplish their goal.

Luke records in Acts that some men of a group, the Freedmen, did not like what Stephen was saying, so they secretly got some men to falsely accuse him before others of saying things against Moses and God.

The world does not always like to hear the truth. They want to feel good about themselves and never see themselves as bad people that are worthy of death. When the truth is spoken it gets them angry and they try to stop it.

God’s word is always truth. It cuts through everything to the center of the heart, revealing what is hidden. Believers are to be willing to speak the truth in every situation. When this occurs, the world will get angry about it and try to stop it.

One of the ways that the world does this is by twisting the words of the believer to make it say something that was not really said. Words that believers speak are often made out to be hate speech because they are words of God against sinful lifestyles. This causes many to be quiet and not speak God’s truth.

Rather than being quiet, believers are to continue to speak His truth. God sees what is happening and will strengthen those who trust Him and do His will.

People will easily twist things you have said to pull you down and make you look bad. Do not be afraid of the attacks of the enemy. Be bold and speak God’s words openly and freely, even as they accuse you of false and hate-filled speech. Allow God’s word to do its work in the hearts and minds of people. Trust that God will take care of you when your words are twisted, and persecution comes against you.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will boldly speak God’s word everywhere you go; that God will reveal the truth of the words you speak; that God will protect you from persecution; and that lives will be changed as they hear God’s truth spoken.
