But the midwives feared God, and did not do as the king of Egypt commanded them, but saved the male children alive. Exodus 1:17
Laws are put on the books and are expected to be obeyed at all times. They are found at every level in life, from the family to the nations. Being obedient is something that is taught to people from the time they are a small child. Disobedience is discouraged and typically punished. In most circumstances, disobedience causes chaos and problems. It hurts more than it helps.
The king of Egypt called for the killing of all the newborn baby Jewish boys. The midwives feared God and refused to obey the king, allowing the baby boys to live.
Businesses and governments around the world have thousands of rules and regulations that are expected to be followed by those under their authority. The majority of those rules are acceptable and do not go against any of God’s commands.
There are some rules that do go against the commands of God. The world often promotes things that go against God and His word. People are often forced to accept and promote sinful activities as though they are good. Without God in the picture, those rules may look and sound good.
Believers hold to a different standard than the world. Their life is to be built upon God’s word and way of living. As a result, there will be times in which the believer must be willing to refuse to obey the worldly authorities that are telling them to go against God and His word.
Disobeying the authorities may bring about punishment from those authorities, but with God, it will bring about His blessing and favor. It is always better to fear and obey God than to fear and obey man.
There are many rules and regulations that you must be willing to obey. Occasionally there may be some that some will give you that go against God and His word. You must know what God’s word says and be willing to obey His word. When the world tries to get you to go against His word, be willing to disobey and follow God instead. The world can only destroy your body, but God can destroy your body and soul. It will be better to obey God than to obey the world and sin against Him.
