The Witness of Answered Prayers

To pray is one thing, but to follow it up with belief is the trial of our faith.

Therefore I say to you, all things for which you pray and ask, believe that you have received them, and they will be granted you.

Mark 11:24 (NASB)

This post is a testimony of sorts, one on a subject that is dear to my heart – prayer. Recently, my family and I have been doing a lot of traveling to and from St. John’s Hospital in Livingston, about forty minutes each way. The thing about hospitals is that they are busy places, and parking can be hard.

Last week, my wife was being released from St.John’s and we needed to park near the exit to make her time in the cold air as short as possible. As we set off, I said to my son we should pray for traveling mercies and a disabled parking space near the front door. My son dismissed the idea saying “Surely God will have more important things to be doing.” I just smiled and said that Father God is also concerned by the small things in our lives too, and we drove and chatted. On reaching the hospital, I ignored the main car park and headed for the few disabled spaces at the front door. The first line of spaces was full up and my son smiled, but in the second line, we found our one disabled space! My son was stunned, I smiled exclaiming  “Amen, thank you, Lord!” We had to return on Saturday for a test to be done, and He provided the closest disabled space to the front door!

It is worth mentioning in the weeks of traveling to this hospital the disabled parking spaces were always full; but on this occasion of real need and specific prayer, God answered with His provision. Those of you who have read my previous posts will remember God providing parking spaces for hospital visits in the past. I do not think this is frivolous or disrespectful at all; if our need is genuine and heartfelt, it is a good cause to pray about. To pray is one thing, but to follow it up with belief is the trial of our faith. I put my faith into action by driving straight past the main carpark and heading for the prized disabled spaces.

Dear Reader, the story I share with you today does not prove how amazing or holy I am. It was an effective witness to my son of the God I love and serve. He saw prayer in a very practical way and God answered that prayer. Such incidents are how our Father God encourages us in our faith and how He touches the lives of those who witness His answers to prayers.
