I was once in a strategic meeting of religious leaders where their plan for my life expressed a corporate spirit, not the Spirit of God. A political gathering under the disguise of spirituality empowered the meeting.
Early in the meeting, I could see what was happening. The Lord had me remain silent as all the proclamations and political engineering occurred. Jan still remembers that day. She said she saw an image in the Spirit of me standing like the actor in the film, the Matrix. As the image Jan saw began to unfold, she saw my body bend and move supernaturally causing the bullets fired from their plan to find no place to land. My silence, as directed by the Lord, was my defense and opened the door to a future of blessing and calling that Jan and I enjoy today.
There are times when silence before those who wish us harm is the way forward. Walking away in silence from our accusers will release the plan of God. In those moments, silence is the weapon the Lord will use to reveal our trust in Him and release what He has planned for our lives. To stand and try to defend ourselves will hinder the work of God.
As those who wished harm to David executed their plan against him, he wrote, “I am silent before them as one who cannot speak. I choose to hear nothing, and I make no reply. For I am waiting for you, O Lord” (Psalm 38: 13-15).
Being silent before our accusers and waiting for the Lord to act on our behalf can be a challenge. In our silent trust, the Lord will be free to bless us with a life we could not imagine had our feelings of betrayal been allowed to take the reins and lead us forward.
