But as for me, the nearness of God is my good; I have made the Lord GOD my refuge, That I may tell of all Your works.
Psalm 73:28 (NASB)
Psalm 73 is one of those psalms where you can see David going on a spiritual journey; we find him struggling with the prosperity of the godless while he holds onto God’s Word. The final verse of the psalm before us today is David’s conclusion – He chooses the company of Almighty God over the treasures of this world.
This is so true of our lives today; we also see our ungodly acquaintances doing well – they prosper in their wealth and health. But as we know, a rich man can own much, but he can’t take it with him when he dies…someone else will inherit it. As children of God, it would be wise to choose riches that last for eternity – those that are stored in our future Heavenly home (Matthew 6:19-21).
Dear Reader, rather than being downhearted at the temporary prosperity of those around you, be uplifted by the closeness of Father God. He is your refuge and reassurance of royal riches. Let us praise Him amongst the people we meet each day!
