The Missing Ingredient

Some forms of healing only take place when the demon creating the affliction is openly challenged and its authority is confronted.

The Lord wants to release a fresh move of His Spirit that will bring supernatural healing to the afflicted. There is one thing the Church needs to be willing to do before this happens. That one thing is the ability to identify and expose a demon’s identity that is causing some afflictions to take place. Following that initial identification, we are called to rebuke the demon’s presence and authority. Without that identification, the Church will remain static and powerless when we should be moving forward with power.

Scripture tells us that man had a son who was being afflicted by a demon. The demon would cause the boy to go into fits of rage, where he would be thrown to the ground and foam at the mouth.

The father came to Jesus and asked, “Teacher, I beg you to look at my son, my only child. An evil spirit keeps seizing him, making him scream. It throws him into convulsions so that he foams at the mouth. It batters him and hardly ever leaves him alone” Luke 9:28-39).

In our highly educated medical world, we are offered pills and remedies that only manage an affliction, but do not bring full healing. These prescriptive solutions only touch the surface of a sickness or disease, but look no further for a deeper cause.

Jesus looked at the boy through the eyes of the Spirit, and in that spiritual sight, Jesus saw that a demon was present and active. “As the boy came forward, the demon knocked him to the ground and threw him into a violent convulsion. But Jesus rebuked the evil spirit and healed the boy. Then he gave him back to his father” (Luke 9:42).

Some forms of healing only take place when the demon creating the affliction is openly challenged and its authority is confronted.

The Church has been placed in each nation to follow in the footsteps of Jesus, looking with discerning eyes to see the deeper issues of demonic activity that are at work. To neglect that aspect of our faith is to reduce the influence of the Church and keep it tethered to ineffective human-inspired outcomes. Just as Jesus modeled for us, there are times when we need to confront the root cause – demonic activity – and expose its presence before healing can occur.

If the Church is to be like Christ in all aspects, we need to follow His example when it comes to some forms of physical healing and not copy the failed methods of the world, or the failed methods currently accepted in some parts of the Church.

That is the kind of discernment that will be required for us to see unusual miracles take place – miracles that will heal all aspects of human dysfunction – mental, physical, and emotional dysfunction.
