The LORD of Our Salvation

God is the only one with whom we can be utterly confident, and all others will fail us – David knew this.

Salvation belongs to the LORD;
Your blessing be upon Your people! Selah.

Psalm 3:8 (NASB)

I have a love for Psalm 3; in it, we find David in dire need surrounded by enemies, some of whom would kill him for their own gain, and in particular Absalom, his own son. Despite these trying circumstances, David relies upon God with confidence. A good example of his confidence is found in verse 3, which I often quote: “But You, O LORD, are a shield about me, My glory, and the One who lifts my head.” What an amazing proclamation; David was certainly in need of a shield, a mighty one at that, and they don’t come any mightier than Almighty God.

Meditate on this psalm, and you will see David’s confidence in God exuding out of every verse – he knew that there was no one else who could save him. Contrast David’s choice with that of society today; so many people choose to follow prominent leaders or ideologies, but they come and go – Almighty God is unchanging, He is the only source of true salvation. He is the only one with whom we can be utterly confident, and all others will fail us – David knew this.

Dear Reader, Oh, to know true salvation! It is one thing to know our need of it, but to know who can deliver it is something else. Such reassurance is to be found in God and in no one else. It is His to give to those who call out to Him. Do you share David’s confidence in the LORD of salvation today?
