But God remembered Noah …
Genesis 8:1a (NASB)
Our verse today is one of my favorite statements in the whole Bible; I often return to meditate upon it – what a blessing it is. If you are a regular reader, you might remember previous devotionals I have written on this verse. The fact that Almighty God remembered is not amazing, but that He chose to remember Noah ( his family and animals) – that One so great would remember those who are tiny by contrast.
The remembrance of Noah was because he “found favor in the eyes of the LORD” (Genesis 6:8). He had found favor before God because he “was a righteous man, blameless in his time; Noah walked with God” (Genesis 6:9).
Dear Reader, what a profound thought it is to be remembered in this way. It is amazing that the first thing men say of us is that we were righteous, blameless, and walked with God. But to be remembered by the Almighty must be the most precious thing of all! If there would be any doubt in this, we need only read Psalm 105:8, “He has remembered His covenant forever, The word which He commanded to a thousand generations.” Almighty God’s memory of His chosen children is eternal, and that includes you!
