Stating the Facts

God continues to speak in the New Testament era by His Son, our Lord, and Savior Jesus Christ.

God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world.
Hebrews 1:1-2 (NASB)

In recent days, I have been blessed in a study of Hebrews 1, which began in a hospital waiting room of all places – I praise God for Bible Apps available on our devices. The thing about Hebrews is that many folk are duped into believing it is complex, beyond the understanding of the humble person. This is not strictly true; I would go as far as saying it is a lie from the Devil to deter us from receiving the blessings in this amazing book.

The opening words of our text today bear a similarity to Genesis 1:1: “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” Both verses (Genesis & Hebrews), rather than being a defense, are a statement of the facts regarding God. The first verse today assumes the existence and belief in God, a solid foundation indeed. The writer of the Epistle also states the fact that God spoke and that He still speaks – our God is not silent! The writer only mentions one specific source of God’s speaking, the prophets, but also in “many ways.” But then the author brings us to the peak of these facts in that God continues to speak in the New Testament era by His Son, our Lord, and Savior Jesus Christ. Take note of His three titles: Son, Heir, and Creator – all as a member of the Triune Godhead. In these two short verses, we see a clearly continuing narrative described throughout all of Scripture – the story of God’s Redeeming work.

Dear Reader, although the facts stated in the beginning of Hebrews were originally written for a Jewish audience, they are still valid for all believers today. They tell us plainly of our Father God’s plan through history to redeem us, His children, through Jesus Christ, His beloved Son. These are facts worth celebrating and praising God for, brethren!
