Spiritual Security

The world will always threaten and attack us, but our spiritual security is always active.

And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age. Matthew 28:20b (ESV)

I went to Asda (Walmart) the other day to stock up on some groceries. I don’t particularly enjoy shopping, I try to get in and out as fast as possible. I use “scan and go” so I can fill up bags while I go. This saves a bit of time until a scanner stops you from leaving the checkout area, which was the case on this occasion. As a store assistant and I emptied my bags to find the unscanned item(s) she said “It’s your steaks, they are security tagged” which shocked me. Certain high-value groceries such as roast beef, butter, and baby formula are security tagged in Britain today. The offending tags were removed from the steaks, we both repacked the groceries, and I headed out to my car.

As I left the store, I was impressed how the security was unseen, but clearly present and active. It occurred to me how this can also be true in our spiritual life as children of God. The world will always threaten and attack us, but our spiritual security is always active – Jesus Christ guards those who are His own.

Dear Reader, I never thought covert security tags on my steaks would remind me of my security in Christ. How is your spiritual security today; are you safe in the arms of Jesus?
