Blow the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in My holy mountain! Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble; for the day of the Lord is coming, for it is at hand:
It is common for many places to have various types of alarms for different uses. People have an alarm clock to wake them up for the day. Businesses will have alarms to alert of intruders outside of business hours. Cities will have alarms warning of the danger of major storms or fires. All are to give a warning of something that is coming or occurring.
Joel records God calling for a blowing of the trumpet in Jerusalem to warn everyone of the coming day of the Lord because it is near.
Alarms are often an annoying sound so that they get the attention of someone quickly and easily. Although they are annoying, many people will also ignore an alarm. They hit the snooze button or just ignore the warning that there is an imminent need for action.
The ignoring usually comes when there is no apparent sign of danger. People feel as if they have more time to react when they hit the snooze button in the morning.
Out of all the dangers that have occurred in the world throughout history, there is one that is coming that will outshine them all. That danger is the return of the Lord. When Jesus returns it will be to cast a final judgment upon every person for sin and to destroy the earth to make room for a new heaven and earth.
Every believer sees and knows that this day is coming and is soon. Each day is a little sooner and no one knows the exact day. Believers need to get out and sound the alarm that this day is coming. The world needs to hear about their need for Jesus, repentance of sins, and forgiveness.
You have some alarms that help you be warned of some issues in your life. As a believer, you know of the coming of Jesus and the need for others to hear about Him. Be the alarm that others need to hear. Go out and tell everyone you know about Jesus. Give every person an opportunity to repent of their sins and be saved before the day of the Lord suddenly appears upon them and they are cast out for eternity.
Will you be an alarm today?
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will be ready for the day of the Lord; that you will sound the alarm of Jesus’ return; and that God will draw many to salvation through your testimony.
