Then he said, “Who made you a prince and a judge over us? Do you intend to kill me as you killed the Egyptian?” Exodus 2:14
Actions are done in secret to keep anyone else from seeing what was done. These actions can be good or evil, to do something good or to harm someone. Many times, people feel as if their quiet actions are not harming anyone else and are just for themselves.
Moses had chosen one day to strike and kill an Egyptian for harming another Israelite and tried to do it without others seeing the action. The next day he confronted an Israelite for harming another. The man asked Moses if he was going to kill him as he did the Egyptian.
Criminals try to do things in the dark or when no one else is around to see what is being done. It is done this way to prevent being caught doing wrong and being prosecuted or punished.
While most people are not criminals, the majority of people try to do things in secret, believing no one sees them. Telling lies, gossiping, watching porn, taking drugs and more are done in secret, in the dark behind closed doors. It appears as if no one sees the dark little secret sins and that they are innocent.
Church people are often guilty of living in this way. Claiming to believe in Jesus, yet walking in some secret sin, hoping no one sees.
God sees. He is able to bring the sin into the open so that others know and see it. His purpose is to get the person to turn away from sin and turn to Him, walking in righteousness and holiness. Jesus paid the price to remove and flee sin, not embrace it.
There will be times that you do things in secret to surprise someone. The surprise is to be revealed at a specific time and for a specific purpose. While there is nothing wrong with those secrets, there may be times in your life you are doing something sinful that you want to keep hidden. People may not see the sin, but God does. He is watching and wants to remove that sin from your life. In His mercy, He may reveal that sin to others to help you face it, repent of it, and be forgiven. Allow God to help you turn from secret sins and live for Him.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that God will strengthen you to overcome secret sins; that you will repent of things done wrong in secret before God; and that you will live the holy and righteous life always that Jesus has purchased for you.
