Seeking God’s Face

Being face-to-face with someone is a very personal thing.

When You said, “Seek My face,” my heart said to You,
“Your face, O LORD, I shall seek.”
Psalm 27:8 (NASB)

Being face-to-face with someone is a very personal thing; some welcome it warmly and others tell you to “get out of my face!” It comes down to what is appropriate with certain people, the time, and the place; these define what makes good eye-to-eye contact. I saw this recently in a young couple; there were no words needed, and the look of love said all that was needed in the moment. In history we read stories of lowly servants not daring to look their master or king eye to eye on pain of severe punishment; it was impertinent for a servant to engage their master in visual contact.

Glory in His holy name;
Let the heart of those who seek the LORD be glad.
Seek the LORD and His strength;
Seek His face continually.
Psalm 105:3-4

In our verse today when God says “Seek My face” it is a royal invitation of Almighty God to His subjects to come close to Him; an unthinkable invitation in the worldly context. What makes it more amazing is what we find in Psalm 105:4; we are invited to “seek His face continually” – it is an open invitation!

Dear Reader, David receives his invitation in joy and gratitude, as should we too. The invitation to seek God’s face is available to all His children; those who are adopted through their faith in Jesus Christ. When was the last time you sought God intimately in this way?
