Seek Him Now!

The door won’t stay open forever!

Seek the LORD while He may be found;
Call upon Him while He is near.
Isaiah 55:6 (NASB)

I admit I am a clock watcher; I am passionate about things being on time. I plan in advance for any appointments arranging to arrive before the appointed time to avoid any panic. If things don’t go like clockwork though, plan “B” will come into operation. Our verse today is about God’s appointed time for our salvation, and He does not require a plan “B.” He holds time in His hands, knowing exactly when everything is to take place.

We are called to “seek the LORD” now, before the appointed time of His Son’s return, for which we need to be ready. “Seek” comes from the Hebrew word dârash which means more than mere looking; it refers to requiring Him, pursuing Him diligently. This certainly describes the necessity of man’s requirement of a Saviour; we would do well to pursue Him diligently today.

Dear Reader, today’s verse was a call to the people of God who were far from God. We find a similar call from God in Jeremiah 3:12 – “return, faithless Israel,” declares the LORD; “I will not look at you in anger. For I am gracious,” declares the LORD.” This is a call to a people who have backslid from God. I remember my own time of backsliding several years ago, and God by a man of God called me back into His family – something I am forever grateful for. Take note of the phrases “while He may be found” and “while He is near” – the door won’t stay open forever! Seek Him today, without any delay.
