For in the day of trouble He will conceal me in His tabernacle;
In the secret place of His tent He will hide me;
He will lift me up on a rock.
In the last two verses David talks of longing for and being in the company/house of the LORD; but it does not only refer to when we get to Heaven, as glorious as that will be. We can also be concealed by Him in His presence in this earthly life; what a boost to the child of God’s confidence that is.
“Call upon Me in the day of trouble;
I shall rescue you, and you will honor Me.”
“The day of trouble” is a general term that covers all evil that may assail us, be it sorrow, afflictions, or persecution. “He will conceal me…” does mean to hide, but also to cover or reserve from who or what would do us harm. He will preserve His own in an exclusive place, His tabernacle/tent which by definition also means His home. He saves us not in any random place, but in His personal space – think about that for a moment brethren. Every time I read this I am reminded of the first time God rescued me, when I surrendered my life to His Son Jesus Christ. On that day He lifted me out of the mire of my life and set my feet upon the Rock.
I waited patiently for the LORD;
And He inclined to me and heard my cry.
He brought me up out of the pit of destruction, out of the miry clay,
And He set my feet upon a rock making my footsteps firm.
Dear Reader, read today’s verse by David prayerfully, applying it to your own life – it is for you too. God is a loving Father always seeking to save His children in all circumstances. Call on Him from your heart, He will hear and rescue you – in that, you can be confident today.
