Therefore, my brethren, you also have become dead to the law through the body of Christ, that you may be married to another–to Him who was raised from the dead, that we should bear fruit to God. Romans 7:4
Going through life seeking purpose is the goal of most people all over the world. No one wants to go through life aimlessly with no reason or purpose. Life becomes mundane and without meaning when the purpose remains hidden. Finding self-pleasure in sinful activities is often what people are able to find, believing that is the best purpose to have.
As Paul is talking about death to the law, he tells the Romans that they had become dead to the law through Jesus Christ, who was raised from the dead, so that they could be married to Him and bear fruit unto God.
While something is dead it cannot serve any purpose or produce any fruit. It is dead and worthless in the moment, just lying there and rotting away until something gives it life again.
Seeds drop into the ground dead. Once water flows into them they begin to have life and sprout. Later it breaks through the ground and produces a plant, which in turn produces fruit that is edible. Its purpose has been discovered.
Prior to living for God, people are dead in sin. They have no purpose in life, but to sin and please self. They are bound to the law of sin and death until they can be set free.
Jesus died upon the cross and rose again to give every person new life and purpose. He is able to break the bondage of the law. Once set free from that bondage, the new believer has the ability to produce fruit for God. The believer has a new purpose that lasts for all eternity.
Finding purpose in your day-to-day living is probably important to you. Breaking the bondage to sin is also important to you. Allow Jesus to raise you up to a new life by His grace and mercy, breaking the bondage to the law and death through sin.
Become the new creation who bears fruit for God in all that you do. Find the purpose that God has for you in this world. Be His witness in the manner that He has set for you to build His kingdom.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will die to sin so that you can be raised to life in Christ Jesus; that you will find your purpose in Jesus; and that you will bear much fruit for God.
