Therefore show to them, and before the churches, the proof of your love and of our boasting on your behalf. 2 Corinthians 8:24
Thousands of love stories have been written over the years in books and movies. Characters show their love in different ways, as being the ideal examples of love, that touches the hearts of people around the world. Being loved is desired by everyone but is often a missing element in the lives of most people. Words of love and affection are said, but they are only words and nothing more.
Paul was talking about meeting the needs of others and then told the Corinthian church to show others the proof of their love.
Saying that someone loves someone else is an easy thing to do. Beginning in elementary school young boys and girls begin telling each other or others that they are in love with someone.
Although they say they love someone, very seldom is that love proven. Proving that one loves someone can be a difficult task to do. It requires that one put oneself aside and lift the other person up, even when that person has done wrong.
Love is shown and proven when there is forgiveness for wrongs done. It is shown when grace is extended when not deserved. Love is proven when one helps others out, even when there is personal need for help. It is more than just a few words being spoken.
Jesus showed poof of His love when He died upon the cross for people who hated Him and did not want anything to do with Him. He paid the ultimate price for sin out of immense and eternal love.
Believers need to show that same type of sacrificial love towards others as a proof of their love for God and for others.
There are people who you are willing to say that you love. It is easy for you to prove that love to those people. However, are you able to prove your love towards God and others who are not so loveable? What, beyond words, are you doing that shows that you love others, both inside and outside the church? Ask God to show you ways that you can prove your love towards Him and towards others. Seek out actions that show love that goes beyond a few words being spoken.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will show the true love of God towards others; that there will be proof of your love in your actions; and that God will help you to love others as He loves them.
