From the rising of the sun to its setting
The name of the LORD is to be praised.
Psalm 113:3 (NASB1995)
While walking through the woods a couple of nights ago, I was caught in the dazzling magnificence of the rays of the sunset through the trees. I had to stop and marvel at its beauty, giving glory to the LORD who created such jewels for us to enjoy. In the solitude of that serene moment, I was reminded of the old worship song from our scripture today. In it, we are reminded of our duty to praise our Father God from sunrise to sunset and in the depths of night, darkness too. We are called to praise Him perpetually, and not just for a few minutes in the morning or at church on Sunday – it is a 24/7 calling.
I will bless the LORD at all times;
His praise shall continually be in my mouth.
My soul will make its boast in the LORD;
The humble will hear it and rejoice.
O magnify the LORD with me,
And let us exalt His name together.
Psalm 34:1-3
David, the shepherd, psalmist, and King, says much about praising God. He will see when we read about him and read his psalms that he was a regular in prayer and praise. From Psalm 34 quoted here, we see it was a testimony to those around David and an encouragement to join him in praising God.
In Psalm 145:1-2, David proclaims and promises his praise to his God in his prayers, which is an eternal promise:
I will extol You, my God, O King,
And I will bless Your name forever and ever.
Every day I will bless You,
And I will praise Your name forever and ever.
Dear Reader, I personally love to find moments to praise God, whether they are mere seconds or minutes, in times of joy or in need of His presence. I had one such brief moment when I saw the sunset through the trees. What about you, do you live a life of perpetual praise of God – seeking moments to praise Him as often as you can?
I will praise the LORD while I live;
I will sing praises to my God while I have my being.
Psalm 146:2
