Our Great Need

The manna provided by God for the Israelites in the wilderness was a reminder of their great need of Him.

Let us lift our hearts and hands
To God in heaven.
Lamentations 3:41 (NKJV)

This extra devotional today comes by the inspiration of C.H. Spurgeon’s “Morning and Evening” and the above verse. It is a verse in the words “let us” that calls us to recognise our need of Him, and into action in our quiet time today.

Prayer is much more than coming with a shopping list of demands to our loving Father; it is also a recognition of our constant need of Him and His provision. The manna provided by God for the Israelites in the wilderness was a reminder of their great need of Him (Exodus 16); their daily coming to Him for their need was an exercise that provided benefits throughout the day.

Dear Reader, we pray each morning because we need strength for the day ahead. As the marathon runner needs daily exercise to be able to finish the race someday; we need daily spiritual exercise to enable us to finish each day and to finish the race when we reach the Heavenly finishing line. “Let us lift our hearts and hands to God in heaven” – we need Him every day brethren.
