BIBLE READING PLAN
Opposition is a Mission
Ever feel like you are struggling for a breakthrough? It might be spiritual opposition. Opposition is a mission, friends. It is an opportunity to trust, persevere, and to reach who God called you to reach. Rather than just wanting it to be over, ask God what you need to learn.
Bible Reading of the Day: Psalm 126-128, Eccl 5-6, Acts 13-14
Admittedly, I am still struggling with recovery from COVID. COVID leaves in its wake inflammation and damage. But God. We can ask God to help us learn what we need to from our struggles rather than becoming discouraged by them. Sometimes when the trials lag on a bit longer than we want, we can choose to accept the trial as a mission.
The Psalms are such a sweet place of refuge in life’s struggles. Today’s Psalms are still a part of the song of ascents. Gotquestions.org said,
“Each of the psalms in this collection begins with the title “A Song of Ascents.” While perhaps they were not originally composed for this purpose, these psalms were later grouped together for use in traveling toward Jerusalem for the yearly Jewish festivals.”
Psalm 126
“When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dreamed. 2 Our mouths were filled with laughter, our tongues with songs of joy. Then it was said among the nations, “The Lord has done great things for them.” 3 The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy. 4 Restore our fortunes, Lord, like streams in the Negev. 5 Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy. 6 Those who go out weeping, carrying seed to sow, will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with them.”
Opposition is a Mission—God restores in the midst
Our God restores! Weeping might only last for a night. But joy comes in the morning! When we face opposition in this life, God is our refuge.
The disciples faced opposition from people in the surrounding culture and the church. In both instances from our reading in Acts today, there was an attempt to poison the minds of others to be predisposed against them.
Acts 14:1-4
“In Iconium they entered the Jewish synagogue, as usual, and spoke in such a way that a great number of both Jews and Greeks believed. 2 But the unbelieving Jews stirred up the Gentiles and poisoned their minds against the brothers. 3 So they stayed there a long time and spoke boldly for the Lord, who testified to the message of his grace by enabling them to do signs and wonders. 4 But the people of the city were divided, some siding with the Jews and others with the apostles.”
The world operates through deception, trying to influence others. But God’s people operate through prayer and truth. Keep speaking truth, friends, and don’t be intimidated by the bias in the media or lies in our culture. Keep being the light this world so desperately needs to see.
Scripture of the Day: Eccl 5:1
“Guard your steps when you go to the house of God. Go near to listen rather than to offer the sacrifice of fools, who do not know that they do wrong.”
When we go to God, we can pour out our heart and should be honest about our suffering, but trust in Him to do what’s best. Opposition is not an opportunity to stop trusting God, but a mission to glorify Him in the midst.
Application
