This morning while reading the word, an image appeared in my spirit of a hand reaching over a fence and dropping a note. The fence separated the present from the future. The note was a promise from God assigned to a time and place of future fulfillment. The fence represented obstacles currently in place that were physical, time-related, or spiritual obstacles.
When we know a promise has been deposited in our future and continue to pray into its fulfillment we will live in hope. Hope empowers our belief that God is at work in our future preparing the context for the fulfillment of a promise no matter what is taking place on this side of the fence. This is especially important when what is happening in our current circumstances tries to dissuade us from believing that God will be faithful to fulfill what He has promised.
“And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires”(II Peter 1:4).
