Never Too Old

Whether you are younger or older in age, God has something for you to do.

So Abram departed as the Lord had spoken to him, and Lot went with him. And Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed Haran. Genesis 12:4

At a young age people feel that they can conquer the world, that there is nothing that they cannot do. Many are willing to step out and take risks, often taking risks that do not make any sense. In taking those risks, sometimes one is successful, and other times one fails to accomplish the desired dreams. One thing that does occur is one learns.

God came to Abram (who later became Abraham) and told him to leave everything and go somewhere new. Abraham, with Lot, leaves just as God told him to do. At the time he was seventy-five years old.

Taking risks at a young age is very common. One has not learned what one can or cannot do or what one should or should not do. As people begin to age, they stop taking such great risks.

People then want to go into retirement and stop working, stop taking risks, and just enjoy life. If they have the money in their elderly years, many will begin to travel and do the things they always wanted to do but couldn’t because of work. Others just sit back in an easy chair and do nothing, wasting their time away.

No matter how old a person can be, one can still do great things for God. It is at that age when God may call a person into some new ministry because work schedules are not hindering a person from doing something new.

Instead of rejecting that call and sitting in a chair, one needs to be willing to step out and obey God. One is never too old to step out to do God’s will.

Whether you are younger or older in age, God has something for you to do. You may be in your golden years of life and do not feel that you can do anything more for God, wanting to stop and slow down. It may be that is when God wants you to pick up the pace in your service to and for Him. Be willing to move out of your comfort zone into a new area in order to obey God. Through Christ all things are possible, and God may do more great things through you during your older years.

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know what God wants you to do; that God will use you no matter what your age is; and that you will be willing to be used of God no matter where you are in life.
