Making Godly Introductions

As children of God our Father, we have authority to speak His Word into the lives of the lost that we meet.

Then Joseph brought his father Jacob and presented him to Pharaoh; and Jacob blessed Pharaoh.
Genesis 47:7 (NASB)

Of the many stories in the Bible, there are some that stand out that I would like to have witnessed,  today’s verse highlights one of these incidents. Here we have the ruler of Egypt, a very powerful man granting an audience to Jacob who wasn’t a king. But Jacob was God’s man, serving Him as the father and ruler of His chosen people. Joseph presented his father Jacob before Pharaoh; it was God’s work introducing God’s servant to a king.

These seem small details, that Jacob introduced his father and Pharaoh accepted the old man with respect, but they are examples to Christians today. We live in a world where we will meet ungodly folk who will talk freely with us, they may be in authority or not. We can follow Joseph’s example and introduce those we meet to God, and if they accept the invitation by listening/talking to us we can fulfill the final line of the verse by blessing them. We can bless people in our civility, being gracious towards them. But we can bless them authoritatively too. As children of God our Father, we have authority to speak His Word into the lives of the lost that we meet. There have been times when I have had such meetings with individuals, they are often open to hearing a verse of God’s Word, and to being prayed for.

Dear Reader, when was the last time you introduced your Lord and Saviour Jesus to someone? The same God who introduced Jacob to Pharoah is still making introductions today, introducing sinners to His Son. I pray that the Holy Spirit will guide you into divine appointments with curious souls, that you can introduce to Jesus.
