For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way. 2 Thessalonians 2:7
Work is occurring all over the world at all times, day and night. On the surface it is easy for one to see people working their jobs or in their yards doing physical work. While all the work is occurring to accomplish some common and simple task, there is often work being done at the same time to accomplish a much larger task that cannot be seen.
As Paul is talking about the end times, he points out that lawlessness is already working and is restrained until the One who restrains it is taken out of the way.
Generally accepted is the idea that everyone will obey the laws. People understand that if there is lawlessness, there is chaos and trouble. As a whole people appear to be willing to obey the laws, yet many will try to get away with not obeying all the laws that are given. It is common for people to disobey the laws when they feel they can get away with it.
While many may obey the laws of the land, many reject the laws of God. Nations are making rules that reject God’s laws. They are striving to be lawless in order to do what they want.
The Holy Spirit is upon the earth holding back the dark spiritual realm from being in complete control at bringing about complete lawlessness. At some point in the future, God will remove His Holy Spirit, and lawlessness will reign upon the earth until Christ’s return.
Believers are to be led by the Holy Spirit and flee all lawlessness. They are to strive to obey God’s commands in every area of their life by the power of the Holy Spirit.
The world around you is working hard to destroy the commands of God and bring about lawlessness. They want you to reject God’s laws. Allow the Holy Spirit to lead you and give you strength to follow God and His ways and not be deceived into the lawless ways of the world. Live the life God has called you to live and be ready for eternity with God. Trust that God will take care of you until He calls you home or Christ returns.
Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that God will open your eyes to the lawless works of this world; that you will obey God’s laws at all times; and that God will protect and keep you in His will and ways.
