So Sarah conceived and bore a son to Abraham in his old age, at the appointed time of which God had spoken to him.
Genesis 21:2 (NASB)
I am always in awe of God’s promises in His Word, and particularly the promises that we read in Genesis to Abraham. These were time served promises, they weren’t instant in any sense of the word. God was going to fulfill His promises just at the right time. We see this in today’s scripture, which was preceded in the previous verse, “Then the LORD took note of Sarah as He had said, and the LORD did for Sarah as He had promised.”
The time spoken of is “the appointed time” – it was a Godly appointment. Ecclesiastes 3:1 tells us that “there is an appointed time for everything. And there is a time for every event under heaven.” Our Father God is a Creator of purpose and order, which includes the details of our lives.
The LORD is good to those who wait for Him,
To the person who seeks Him.
It is good that he waits silently
For the salvation of the LORD.
Lamentations 3:25-26
Dear Reader, as we await an answer to our prayers, let us do so in confidence of His goodness for us, His children. He will answer, blessing us at His appointed time.
Wait for the LORD;
Be strong and let your heart take courage;
Yes, wait for the LORD.
Psalm 27:14
