Hearing and Following

Jesus does not holler or shout, so the world does not hear Him.

My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. John 10:27

Sheep have the ability to know their shepherd’s voice. Once they know that voice, they are willing to follow it. There is a trust that the shepherd knows what is best. That voice will lead them to water, to food and to shelter as needed, and will protect them in times of danger. Voices that are not recognized as the shepherd’s voice are ignored. Focus is always put on the one that provides all that is needed and desired, rather than unknown.

John records Jesus saying that His sheep will hear His voice and follow Him and He will know them.

Thousands of voices are speaking every day through the internet, television, signs, radio, and in person. Each voice is usually saying something a little different. They are trying to draw a person towards them and away from other voices. Each one wants to be the one of focus and in complete control.

Following just any voice can cause a person problems. The majority of voices will lead a person down a dangerous path to be taken advantage of and harmed. People have to discern which voices to listen to and follow and which to ignore.

One voice the world ignores is the voice of Jesus. He does not holler or shout, so the world does not hear Him.

Those who are willing to be His sheep will learn to hear His still, quiet voice and follow only His voice. Jesus will know each one individually and provide for that one’s needs in the best way. He will give that believer abundant life in this life and eternal life in the one to come.

All around you are thousands of voices trying to draw your attention and focus. Most of those voices will lead you down the wrong path and only bring about death in the end. Be willing to listen for the voice of God in His word and your spirit. Jesus is ready to speak to you if you will listen. Shut out the voices of this world and focus on His voice alone. Then follow Jesus wherever He may lead you. Unlike the world bringing you death, Jesus will lead you to eternal life.

As you go through life, whose voice are you listening to, the world’s or God’s?

Today I pray that you will know Jesus as your Lord and Savior; that you will know God’s voice in your life; that you will follow Jesus wherever He may lead you; that you will be known by Jesus; and that God will give you wisdom and strength to ignore the false voices of this world.
