As many celebrate Halloween this week, I kept being drawn to a word within that word which is “Hallowed.” Hallowed means, “May your name be Holy.” It is always amazing for me to remember that October 31st is also known as Reformation Day as well as the anniversary of the first day of the Welsh Revival. His name is declared Holy on this day and every other day.
We read these words in Matthew 6,
This, then, is how you should pray: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”
Matthew 6:9-10
I love this prayer, especially during this time in the world, I find myself praying these very words often,
“As we, Your people, declare, ‘Holy is Your name’ we also ask that Your kingdom would come and Your will be done in our nation and in the nations as it is in Heaven.”
We ask for His kingdom to come and His will to be done in our lives, our families, our homes, our churches, cities, and nations. His will is the wisdom that we desire to walk in and His kingdom is the culture that we long to live in.
This is how He taught us and encouraged us to pray. God would never teach us to pray in a way that He doesn’t intend to answer. You can pray this prayer each day with faith that He will answer. His name is Holy (Hallowed) and on a day that so many dress up to be someone or something that they are not, our God never changes or lies, He never leads us to believe something that is not true. Holy and true, faithful and good is our God!
The prayer goes on to say,
“Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.” Matthew 6:11-13
Once again, if God teaches us to pray for our daily bread then He intends to give us our daily bread. Our Father promises to provide for our daily needs. This is not only our physical needs for provision but it is also for the provision that we need spiritually. As we forgive we are then forgiven. His grace continues throughout the ages and washes us from sin. Then God goes further and keeps us from temptation and the evil one. We are to pray this daily in the same way we pray daily for our provision. Remember to ask the Lord to protect our nations from the evil one as well!
As we celebrate Reformation Day— may we declare that HE IS HOLY. Holy is His name in all the Earth. As many will be celebrating fear and darkness this day may God’s people be declaring, “Hallowed be Thy name!” May He deliver us all from the evil one and reform us into His image.
May we declare, “Hallowed be your name, Jesus!” This is the name that brings peace, life, and promises. While death and fear are made “acceptable” today (even to children)— we will rejoice in the “GIVER OF LIFE!”
