Guided In Righteous Ways

Such people shine forth above all others, standing out as holy examples in a dark world.

So you will walk in the way of good men
And keep to the paths of the righteous.
Proverbs 2:20 (NASB1995)

An important aspect of Godly wisdom is recognising it when we see it in others, in particular men and women of God. Yes, we must seek Godly wisdom in God’s Word and in our daily devotions, but we must also be watchful for it in those we meet in church. Such people shine forth above all others, standing out as holy examples in a dark world. Sadly, they are often attacked or mocked by the world, and even those in church – their light exposes the darkness of those in sin or tempted to sin.

I remember one brother in Christ from my past who was tireless in his service for God, yet he was relentlessly mocked by others who did as little as possible. Another example was a dear brother who was a reformed alcoholic, whose love of God’s Word was a bright beacon whenever he spoke or prayed, but some people looked down on Him. My final example of a Godly man was a former coal miner. When he read the Bible, he wrote it all down – the result was a man who really knew God and His Word.

Dear Reader, be sure that you are guided in righteous ways – seek the company of Godly men/women. Is this what is missing in your walk with God? The friendship of wise brethren steeped in holy wisdom is invaluable companions for those seeking closer communion with Almighty God.

I am a companion of all those who fear You,
And of those who keep Your precepts.
Psalm 119:63
