Gospel Tools

As children of God, we are called by Him to always “be ready” to share the reason for our hope in Jesus, our Lord and Savior.

preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction.

2 Timothy 4:2 (NASB)

I recently read an encouraging post by my good friend and sister Nicola entitled The Right Tool… which I commend to you. In her post, Nicola speaks of God’s children endeavouring to be the right tool at the right time in sharing the gospel. It reminded me of my childhood watching Dad preparing his garden tools for work in his rose borders. I remember my dad spending much time on tending the blades of hedge shears, spades, secateurs, and such tools. He would grind them free of any rust or dirt, sharpen them, and oil them to be ready for work. Dad was a firm believer in a workman caring for his tools; they are only effective if they are in good condition. A blunt or rusty lawnmower blade will not do a good job.

As children of God, we are called by Him to always “be ready” to share the reason for our hope in Jesus, our Lord and Savior. It is our duty to prepare ourselves before serving Him. Just like garden tools, we need to keep ourselves ready to serve God in sharing the Good News of the Gospel. We need to be clean, well-sharpened, and oiled in His Word and Spirit.

Dear Reader, are you sharpened, oiled, and ready to share the Good News with those you meet each day? Be forever in His Word that it may sharpen you, and pray in the Spirit to oil your heart, ready to serve when opportunities arise today.
