We are living in an hour that has caused people not to know who to trust or what to trust. Over and over again the things that we have believed were trustworthy have now been proven to be compromised and unsure. Whether it is voting integrity, our news sources, our higher education systems, or even social media platforms— it’s all been compromised.
The enemy has been very clever in his step-by-step tactics to dismantle trust and leave people so isolated by fear and uncertainty that he is able to gain control of many high places. Most people are living in a continuous state of shock and awe as they see all that was once secure and trustworthy chipped away at until they don’t know where to put their trust.
Yet, all of the things that we have put our confidence in and even our hope in will surely fail us because we are to put our trust in the Lord fully and completely. The one thing that the enemy cannot chip away at or bring compromise to is our God! He is never-changing, always faithful and every promise He has made is secure and sure.
Trust in the Lord with all of your heart and do not lean on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6
What the enemy has meant for evil, God is even now using for our good. He is allowing this dismantling of seeing His people compromised and wounded by trusting in things that can be shaken. His Word says that every created thing will be shaken,
At that time his voice shook the earth, but now he has promised, “Once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens.” The words “once more” indicate the removing of what can be shaken—that is, created things—so that what cannot be shaken may remain. Hebrews 12:26-27
God is shifting (shaking) anything that we put our trust in that is not Him— the things around us are being shaken. We are to put our trust in Him alone. Systems have failed us, governments have failed us and even people have failed us (and often we have failed ourselves and others)— because we live in a world that has been compromised by sin and sin makes everything shakable. But the One who was sinless and who redeemed mankind, by laying down His life and taking all of the penalty of sin upon Himself, will never fail us. His Kingdom and His power are unshakable. His love never fails and His promise is eternal.
Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our “God is a consuming fire.” Hebrews 12:28-29
Each new day we are to remind our souls to trust in God alone. We must spend time with Him so that our foundations are secure and our lives are daily built upon Him alone. Then, when we find our nations in war, deceptions and lies are accepted as absolute truth, when we lose a loved one or our physical health is challenged— we are not shaken.
Today the Lord reminded me of a powerful portion of scripture that put into perspective the ways of the enemy and the power (and plans) of our God. It is Psalm 64– let’s first look at the ways of the wicked,
Hear me, my God, as I voice my complaint; protect my life from the threat of the enemy. Hide me from the conspiracy of the wicked, from the plots of evildoers. They sharpen their tongues like swords and aim cruel words like deadly arrows. They shoot from ambush at the innocent; they shoot suddenly, without fear. They encourage each other in evil plans, they talk about hiding their snares; they say, “Who will see it?” They plot injustice and say, “We have devised a perfect plan!” Surely the human mind and heart are cunning. Psalms 64:1-6
Yet, immediately following this vivid description of evil, this is what God will do,
But God will shoot them with his arrows; they will suddenly be struck down. He will turn their own tongues against them and bring them to ruin; all who see them will shake their heads in scorn. All people will fear; they will proclaim the works of God and ponder what he has done. The righteous will rejoice in the Lord and take refuge in him; all the upright in heart will glory in him!” Psalms 64:7-10
As I read these words I could hear in my spirit the pulling back of His bow and I could see His quiver full of arrows— flaming arrows that will pierce the darkness and bring evil men and evil plots to ruin.
We will stand with the Lord as we take refuge in Him and will rejoice in all that He has done and is about to do. We will rejoice in Him!
We say, “Lord, shoot your arrows and strike them down! We will proclaim Your works and mankind will stand in awe of your deeds. For all power, dominion and authority belongs to You alone. Worthy is Your Name in all the earth.”
