When I was a young man, I had little to no understanding of what it meant when my natural dad would constantly leave the house to go to his job. He would leave his family for 12 hours or more.
Years later, when I got a job of my own as a teenager, and I began to experience what it was like in the working world, I gained an understanding of what he was doing as I began to fashion a life for myself.
“When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child; now that I have become a man, I am done with childish ways and have put them aside.” 1 Corinthians 13:11
I had put away the understanding that I had as a child, and I began to relate with what it was like to be an adult, having my own responsibilities and duties that I had to fulfill in order to make my way in this world.
It’s the same way in the Spirit realm, for I had to learn what it meant to really be about My Heavenly Father’s Business. To come to an understanding of what that really looks like, to be taught by the Holy Spirit, how to move when he said to move, and be obedient at the promptings of His Voice.
Jesus Christ understood completely what this looked like…
“And He said to them, How is it that you had to look for Me? Did you not see and know that it is necessary [as a duty] for Me to be in My Father’s house and [occupied] about My Father’s business?” Luke 2:49
So many people in the Body of Christ are still functioning in the adolescent part of their Christian walk, where they haven’t yet come to an understanding of what it means to really be about their Father’s business. Either because of fear of stepping out into that realm, or in some cases, not wanting to grow out of their current place of understanding.
Let’s face it, many Christians don’t want to grow up into Him as their Head. They want to stay under other people’s umbrellas, because they don’t want the extra responsibilities that come with a life of maturity in Him!
They usually tell themselves that, “Those Gifts are for those people and not for me,” or “that’s good for them, but I don’t want to embarrass myself if I make a mistake.”
I can tell you right now, (that stepping into doing Dad’s business), you’re probably going to make some mistakes, but if you never step out, you’ll never grow into the Destiny that He has planned for your life in Him!
You will learn the Father’s Business, often through trial and error. Sometimes you’ll hear the Holy Spirit clearly, and other times you’ll be really questioning whether or not what you heard was really His Voice at all (no matter how long you’ve been walking with Jesus Christ!)
The walk of obedience to Father’s Voice is a total walk of obedience and faith, but the more you step into doing Dad’s Business, the more you’ll learn how to do it, until you reach the point where it becomes almost second nature to you. So that, when He speaks, you no longer question it, you just flow right into it and do it almost without thinking about it.
We become conditioned by God, so much for obedience to the point where, when we hear the Voice, we immediately know that it’s Him. Much like the Fathers used to teach their sons their trades or jobs in the Old days.
If your father was a carpenter when you were growing up, you learned carpentry from him. You were taught the tricks of the trade by your Dad’s Presence in your life. In the same way, when you’re young in the Lord, the Holy Spirit begins to mentor each of us in obedience to His promptings and how to obey His Voice in Word and in deed, through His Authority and Power of His Spirit.
If you’re in a place where you feel like you’re being mentored by your Heavenly Father, STAY IN CONSTANT OBEDIENCE TO HIS PROMPTINGS! He is teaching and training each of us, not only how to be obedient to what He’s saying, but also how to move in the Power and Authority of the Kingdom that we’ve been born into.
As we allow Him to fashion us into this position, in the Spirit realm, it will not only clarify our Destiny for us, but it’ll also cause us to experience (first hand) what God’s purposes are for us in the earth as we mature into what it really looks like to be Sons and Daughters of the King.
Don’t get frustrated with the process; let God’s Peace lead you. If you miss it here or there, just get back up and try again. We have a very patient Father Who’s building within us His Presence, Power, and Authority as His Kingdom is being built upon the inside of us. He Who began the Good Work in you will be Faithful to Complete it, no matter how long it takes!
